Welcome
A trip to the Žužemberk municipality in Suha krajina, at the
upper stream of the river Krka, is an escape from the city hustle
and bustle, smog, traffic jam, cars and wild quotidian life.
Nature, that has endowed Žužemberk and Suha krajina with its
richness, offers undreamt-of possibilities for the enrichment of
body and spirit. If you would like to try yourself in various sport
activities, go boating, ride a bicycle, catch fish or go hunting,
trekking or simply drive around in your car, it will be a new
experience, which will remain in your memory forever.
Rich cultural and historical heritage of this region is really
worth taking a look at: the Žužemberk castle, the church of St.
Nicholas, the remains of the Roman road, the renovated smelting
furnace in Dvor, the church of St. Agnes, a centuries old lime
tree, the remnants of Venet villages, mills, the remnants of a
paper mill and tannery, Roman tombstones… Suha krajina is
interesting for everyone; the old and the young, bicyclists,
historians, boatmen, painters, adventurers, explorers…
Everyone who wishes to experience something different will find
something for himself. Local people are trying to offer help to
anyone who needs it. The tourist enthusiasts work in the tourist
association and help in the activities related to the cleaning of
environment, cultural events, and the promotion of Suha krajina. We
wish that more people would get acquainted with our region and
experience a pleasant trip to Žužemberk, the valley of the river
Krka, accompanied by the murmuring of waterfalls and beautiful
nature in this mysterious world.
You are invited to Suha krajina, where time runs with a
different speed. The town of Žužemberk invites you, the river Krka
invites you with its valley of castles, its peace and untarnished
nature, cultural sights, and a number of opportunities to spend
your free time actively.
We wish you visited us and experienced Suha krajina for
yourselves.
